MDL6100   Concepts and Approaches in Translation Studies   (30 credits)

Description

Students will become acquainted with the key elements of linguistic theory, as it relates to the activity of translation and with the main contemporary theories of translation itself. Source-based and target-based theories of translation will be examined, using a variety of text categories and including reference to equivalence, functionalism, syntax and pragmatics. Discriminating, critical engagement with theoretical concepts will be encouraged, as will consideration of their practical application. The breadth and depth of students' methodological resources will be enhanced.
